MAMMALcreate worked on the user interface design for Soundbeam 5 and we were delighted to be invited to join the team to help design the UI for this award winning musical instrument.
Soundbeam 6 has a new very-easy-to-use touch screen interface. The project required maximising usability and the user experience with user friendly controls.
Ensuring Soundbeam brand consistency was also part of our brief. We created a distinct Soundbeam 6 logo and worked on detailing to customise the retro-style casing.
Soundbeam is used around the world by people of all ability, whether you can move your head, arm/s, leg/s, face… if you can move – you can improvise musically with Soundbeam 6. The invisible beams can be as short as a few centimetres or as long as several metres to accommodate any range of movement. Sound, instruments and preprogrammed musical pieces can be accessed from a very extensive library within the system.
Soundbeam are a BATA founder member whose many accolades include Best Social Inventions winner and Music Teacher magazine Best SEN Resource winner.
Happy users describe their experiences:
… you can almost forget that you’re in a wheelchair, and that is the most marvellous thing on the planet.
I can forget about all the junk that I have to live with… There is always a gap between what goes into my head and my physical ability to get my body to behave itself, but with Soundbeam I don’t have to ask anybody for any help, I don’t have to justify the kind of music I’m getting, I can just enjoy it… What I appreciate most is the absolute freedom it gives me, I can make it work with very little effort, and the level of relaxation and comfort that it gives me is absolutely fantastic.
It’s magic, if I could bottle it – I would.
Chris Lees, Soundbeam musician
…the visual clarity of the interface makes it a joy to work with.
Mike Roberts, Warwickshire Music Service
It’s amazing to see how ingenious people are in using Soundbeam, and also how truly liberating it can be!
